IRA Award biggerOn July 20th, SCARCE Executive Director – Kay McKeen, was presented with the Steve Apotheker Award for Illinois Recycler of the Year by the Illinois Recycling Association (IRA).  This is the third time McKeen has been honored with this award.  She received it in 2001 & 2009.

The mission of IRA is to encourage the responsible use of resources by promoting Waste Reduction, Re-Use and Recycling.  McKeen certainly meets this mission and was an easy choice for this award!  “Kay McKeen has been a uniquely effective voice for recycling in Illinois for more than 25 years.” says Adam Jaquet, IRA Board of Directors.    She is seen by IRA as an “expert who always seems to get the jump on cutting edge recycling industry and environmental information”.   She was recognized for her position of influence to persuade thousands of people throughout the state that their actions really do make a difference; for understanding the immense value in composting organics; for her rescue projects that have saved about 5.5 MILLION books from ending up in the landfills; for her educational reach; and for her unique vision and leadership.

The SCARCE Team and Board of Directors is incredibly proud to work with Kay McKeen.
