September Adopt-A-Beach

September 21, 2019

People all over the Great Lakes are cleaning up beaches next month for September Adopt-a-Beach. We’d love for you to join us in the fight against beach litter and plastic pollution. You can make an impact in your community by signing up to attend a cleanup event.

Every year, around 15,000 volunteers participate in Adopt-a-Beach cleanups across all five Great Lakes. Volunteers remove tens of thousands of pounds of litter from shorelines and contribute data on what they find for researchers to use worldwide.

September Adopt-a-Beach is the largest single-day Great Lakes cleanup — and it’s right around the corner on September 21st. Thousands of volunteers come out to clean up beaches across the region after a busy summer. And the Adopt-a-Beach program teams up with groups around the world as part of the International Coastal Cleanup.

Last year, Adopt-a-Beach volunteers picked up more than 36,000 lbs. of beach litter, and more than 89% of it was plastic. We need your help to beat that number this year, so let’s hit the beach together.

Find a cleanup near you today, and join us for a global day of action on September 21st.
