Green Ribbon School Applications Due

February 12, 2018

Gain recognition for the sustainability efforts of your school community! Every school in Illinois can start on the path towards a greener, more sustainable future.

The Illinois Green Ribbon Schools program recognizes schools that have active programs, actions, and dedication to promote and educate about sustainability.  Working in partnership with the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) and the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE), Illinois Green Alliance is accepting applications from schools across Illinois.

Your school is probably doing more than you think, especially when you add up all the great efforts from students, staff and parents.  So why not showcase your school’s achievements and let your community know how much you have accomplished to green your school!

Applications are due Monday, February 12 at 5:00 PM.  The top scoring schools are submitted to the U.S. Department of Education’s Green Ribbon Schools program for consideration at the national level.  Additional information about timeline and the applications for both K-12 and Post-Secondary schools can be found at the information link below.

In 2017, two DuPage County schools were selected as Illinois nominees for the national award: Maercker Elementary School and Western Trails Elementary. Maerker Elementary School went on to earn national recognition by the U.S. Department of Education.
