Take Action to Reduce Air Pollution for Asthma Awareness Month

Asthma affects 1 in 13 people in the US. Whether or not your life has been impacted by asthma, there are tons of ways to take action and learn more to reduce air pollution – indoors and out – that disproportionately affects asthma sufferers. Clean air helps everyone breathe easier.
Dates to Know:
- World Asthma Day is May 2nd
- Air Quality Awareness Week is May 1st-5th
- Participate in Bike to School Day on May 10th – zero-emission transportation
- and Bike to Work Day is May 19th
- Compost Week (May 7-13) celebrates food scrap recycling, which reduces landfill emissions
- Green Drive$ conference is May 18th – promotes cleaner & greener vehicle fleets
- Clean Diesel Grant Applications are due June 20th – apply for $ to reduce emissions from school buses and other district/municipal fleets
Learning Opportunities:
- Get training from SCARCE on indoor air quality – earn or re-certify your Earth Flag and get it for free
- The American Lung Association offers a free, Asthma Basics online course in English and Spanish
- The Respiratory Health Association offers 1 CPDU as part of a free, 1-hr workshop you can schedule at your school
- Green Clean Schools from the Healthy School Campaign has tons of resources
- Green Clean Schools Leadership Institute July 13-14th in Park City, Utah
