Sponsorship
The Sustainable Design Challenge offers a fantastic opportunity to inspire and engage the next generation of design professionals while promoting environmental awareness and education.
Sponsorship of this competition goes beyond financial support. Sponsor participation is a key component that provides expert feedback and real-world connection for participants that is unrivaled in the classroom. SCARCE began working with local sustainable design organizations in 2016 for the 10th annual Sustainable Design Challenge. There was such great feedback from participants that it became a permanent feature of the program.
Check out what our past sponsors love about the program in this 2-minute video below!
Sustainable Design Challenge sponsorship is open to any business or organization that is involved in sustainable design in some manner. Some examples include:
- Engineering
- Landscape Design
- Architecture
- Interior Design
- Urban Planning
- Water Management
All Sponsors:
- Provide monetary support for the event
- May provide 2 judges to evaluate student projects
- May provide information about the sponsoring company/organization at a career table where students can ask questions related to the field.
Additional Opportunities for Higher Sponsorships
- Participate in Sustainability in Action Virtual Meet-Up (see levels below)
- Provide video content to help students explore careers within the sponsoring organization and/or field. Videos will be shared with registered participants.
Judges
The expert knowledge and feedback professionals provide is a cornerstone of this competition. Therefore, we request that all sponsors participate in the competition by providing two staff members to evaluate student projects. Sample evaluation forms, project details and event itinerary are available in the student info packet.
All sponsors are welcome to provide additional judges. Please contact [email protected] to arrange it.
Social Media Highlight
All sponsoring organizations will be featured in a social media post on SCARCE’s Facebook and Instagram accounts. The sponsor is to provide 2-3 sentences on their organization and an image for the post.
Video Content (Optional)
We encourage leveled sponsors to share new or existing video content to help participants explore careers in the field of sustainable design. The videos should cover topics to help students learn more about sustainable design as it relates to your field. For example, videos could highlight an interesting project your organization has done. Past participants’ experiences in the Sustainable Design Challenge have guided their plans for future careers.
Sustainability in Action Virtual Meet-Up
Leveled sponsors are welcome to participate in our live, virtual Sustainability in Action Virtual Meet-Up on Zoom, approximately one month before the event. An important aspect of the Sustainable Design Challenge is providing students with opportunities to learn about local sustainable infrastructure and explore careers. The Meet-Up runs for approximately 1 hour and includes at least one green building tour. Following the tour, each sponsor will have about a few minutes to share career insights and opportunities. Meet-up registration link will be provided after sponsorship registration received. A recording of the live program will be made available for viewing on scarce.org.
Career Table (Optional)
We encourage all sponsors to staff a career table. We will provide a 6-8 foot table. Sponsors are welcome to bring handouts and/or display items to share information about their organization. This is a great opportunity to share your story and experience in the field and for students to learn about potential careers. If an organization is unable to staff a career table, SCARCE is happy to accept handouts, brochures or other materials to make available to students.
Blog & Newsletter Feature
Leveled sponsors will be included in a blog post on scarce.org which will be highlighted in our newsletter. The sponsor is to provide a paragraph write-up about their organization.
Summary of the Day:
Check-in & Judging of Student Projects 8:00am-11:30am – Students display their models in the DuPage County Administration Building. Judges are given a schedule and assigned to groups for evaluating projects and presentations using provided rubrics. SCARCE determines the winners based on judge scores and project write-ups. Winners are announced after the event.
Lunch & Career Table Exhibition 11:30am-2:30pm – Lunch is provided for sponsors, judges and participants. Afterwards, students have time to talk with sponsors about their respective fields at the career tables. Sponsors can highlight projects they’ve worked on, what they do and don’t like about their field or career, discuss potential helpful college coursework, recommend experiences, internships, apprenticeships, and more. During this time, students may also go on group tours of a green building on the county campus.
**Please note, times are approximate and dependent on the number of teams registered.**
