Kay McKeen, SCARCE Founder and Executive Director

We are proud to share that Kay McKeen, SCARCE founder and executive director, was recently appointed to the Statewide Materials Management Advisory Committee (MMAC) and chosen as co-chair of the Education and Outreach Subcommittee. The Illinois MMAC was created by the state legislature to advise the General Assembly on methods to reduce waste going to Illinois landfills.

Kay represents the only non-profit chosen to serve on the MMAC thanks to her unparalleled experience. For over 30 years, she has been educating people of all ages on recycling and resource conservation and serving the wider community as a recycling advocate and advisor, including serving on the City of Wheaton Environmental Improvement Commission.

The committee is comprised of professionals from the fields of recycling, composting, materials management, and solid waste. Over the course of the next year, the committee will investigate current recycling and solid waste practices in Illinois in order to come up with solutions to divert resources from landfills. A report will be compiled from the information collected and presented to the General Assembly by July 1, 2021. More information may be found here.
