Naperville Scouts Divert 77 Pounds of Crayons from the Landfill

Girl Scouts from Maplebrook Elementary School in Naperville ran a crayon collection at their school for SCARCE. In February, the scouts dropped by to donate their total: a whopping 77 pounds of crayons! The crayons will go to SCARCE’s super crayon project where volunteers will sort out whole crayons for teachers to take and recycle broken crayons into new super crayons. Thank you Maplebrook Girl Scouts!

Westin Hotel Saves Key Cards for York Students to Transform into Upcycled Guitar Picks

The Westin Hotel in Lombard recently changed out their room keys for a new product leaving them with 10,000 old plastic key cards to dispose of. The Westin general manager, Mike Feigenbaum, contacted SCARCE looking for an option other than the trash. Thanks to SCARCE’s partnership with the York High School Eco-Club, the old key cards will be upcycled into guitar picks for Guitars for Vets. Thank you to the Westin for making the extra effort and to York High Eco-club students for putting in the work – you rock!
