Save the date! Saturday, October 2nd, 2021, SCARCE will be hosting an in-person workshop entitled Textile Transformations.

The event will take place from 9am-11:30am. There are optional tours of the SCARCE facility from 8:30am-9am and 11:30am-12pm for anyone interested. Admission will be just $5. Masks required.

Did you know that on average, 70 pounds of textiles are thrown out per person in the United States each year? Apart from buying second hand and reducing how much we buy, what can we do to reduce this waste?

In the 2.5 hours of the workshop, you will learn all things textiles reuse and recycling. The first main section will be learning how to make a memory quilt out of old t-shirts. These make great gifts for college students when you utilize their old high school shirts. It keeps them from sitting unused in drawers for years, keeps them out of the landfill, and preserves the happy memories associated with the shirts. This project is also great for souvenir vacation t-shirts! Another part of the workshop will cover the Glass Slipper Project and other options for formal dress swapping and reuse. The third main part of the event will be focused on transforming old or shrunken knitwear into new things. Got a sweater you accidentally threw in the dryer? Turn it into something new! For textiles not suitable for reuse, learn about places to recycle them.

You definitely don’t want to miss out on this information-packed event, so register here and tell a friend!
