Support our $55,000 goal and watch the flower grow!

We help people discover how easy it can be to make a meaningful difference for our kids, for our environment, for our future…and often for all three at once.

Little things add up. Picking up a piece of trash, donating a box of books or keeping items out of the landfill makes a difference. When we work together the impact is magnified and the outcome is profound for people and our planet. SCARCE has been working with individuals, schools, businesses and organizations for 33 years showing them ways they can take action.

Examples of little things adding up take place on multiple levels:

• Locally- Providing books to people where they work, live and play
• Regionally- Collecting and delivering supplies to communities impacted by natural disasters including the Taylorville, IL tornadoes
• Nationally- Supplying essential items when hurricanes and flooding hit our coastal communities
• Globally- Helping those in Turkey and Syria that had been devastated by the earthquakes

Locally

Literacy At the Laundromat
With our Literacy at the Laundromat program, SCARCE provides free reading materials kids can take home to boost literacy and a love of reading.

Regionally

Taylorville, IL – 2019
5 tornadoes and 3 communities impacted. SCARCE provided books, simple supplies (pens, crayons, pens, etc.) to resupply areas heavily impacted by tornadoes.

Nationally

NC Hurricane Florence
Provided 10,852 books to North Carolina after Hurricane Florence.  UPS donated a driver and a truck to get books there around December 23rd. Ironically, the UPS driver who arrived to pick up and deliver the books had the last name Rudolph!

Globally

We had the pleasure of delivering a truckload of donations to IQRA International Educational Foundation in Skokie. These items will make their way to Turkey and Syria to aid the victims of the recent devastating earthquakes. We were able to provide 155 blankets, 11 coats, 35 scarves, 17 teddy bears, 15 T-shirts, 7 backpacks, as well as a few pairs of shoes, hats, tarps, packs of soup, hand sanitizer, and wipes.

“I just want to say: thank you Scarce! We visit a laundromat every week and my 4 year old daughter loves to find books. Today she found a Dr. Seuss book, her favorite! Thanks to you, we started our very own library at home. We love to read together. Thank you for making this possible!”
