Support our $70,000 goal and watch the flower grow!

We help people discover how easy it can be to make a meaningful difference for our kids, for our environment, for our future…and often for all three at once.

Little things add up. Picking up a piece of trash, donating a box of books or keeping items out of the landfill makes a difference. When we work together the impact is magnified and the outcome is profound for people and our planet. SCARCE has been working with individuals, schools, businesses and organizations for 33 years showing them ways they can take action.

Examples of little things adding up take place on multiple levels:

• Locally- Providing books to people where they live, work and play
• Regionally- Collecting and delivering supplies to communities impacted by natural disasters and where resources are limited
• Nationally- Supplying essential items when hurricanes and flooding hit our coastal communities
• Globally- Helping those in need during times of devastation or when access to supplies is challenging

Locally

Literacy At the Laundromat
With our Literacy at the Laundromat program, SCARCE provides free reading materials kids can take home to boost literacy and a love of reading.

Regionally

Forrest, IL -2024
Teachers from Forrest, IL were able to take 900 books back to their community.  Their school serves four surrounding towns, none of which have a community library.  Access to books is challenging and these books increase that access for students, families and community members.

Nationally

Provided 800 lbs. of supplies including 5 boxes of brand new school supplies and sports equipment & 8 boxes of 100% cotton T-shirts for the Navajo Nation in Window Rock, AZ. Navajo Nation is the largest Indian reservation in the country with a population of more than 173,000.

Globally

This summer, a teacher from Lombard, IL who was traveling to Zambia to volunteer in schools and learn about their education system brought materials from SCARCE to her hosts.

“I (provided the) school with ‘new’ books, posters, and pencils from SCARCE…My favorite thing was a big teacher book (…featuring) an African folktale. (The students) loved coming up to read pages and holding a book that was half their size!”

4th Grader, Walker Elementary School, Clarendon Hills

“I just want to say: thank you Scarce! We visit a laundromat every week and my 4 year old daughter loves to find books. Today she found a Dr. Seuss book, her favorite! Thanks to you, we started our very own library at home. We love to read together. Thank you for making this possible!”
