International Compost Awareness Week

May 6, 2018 - May 12, 2018

The 2018 ICAW theme is Compost! Building a Better Future.

For Everyone

SCARCE loves compost – it’s even in our name (School and Community Assistance for Recycling and Composting Education). We’ve got a wealth of knowledge you can tap into. Learn more about compost, including the how-to for indoor and outdoor composting and using compost, and purchase food scrap amended compost at our annual Growin’ Green Garden Market on May 5th.

For Educators

Teachers can visit a large-scale composting facility and build their own worm composting bin to take back to school by joining us for our summer course “Where is Away?” June 11-15th. SCARCE is always happy to help teachers and schools learn more about composting and how to enhance education in the classroom or start-up a composting program. We have helped numerous schools go green and reduce waste. Learn more and contact us to get started!

View more resources for teachers to bring compost education to the classroom from the Composting Council.

Show your composting pride! You may purchase a copy of the poster (shown above) here.

The goal of International Compost Awareness Week is to expand public knowledge regarding the benefits of using compost to nurture the soil, to grow healthy plants, reduce the use of fertilizer and pesticides, improve water quality and protect the environment. The program includes a poster contest, programs at schools, and activities and events promoted through governments, public municipalities and local businesses nationwide.
